Do you know how we started our journey on the road of civilization? Every day we are discovering new things about our ancient settlements that help to form a strong base for the development. In Jordan, Israel, some artifacts and relics have been discovered, which give us an insight into the lives of people 10,000 years ago. During the Stone Age, people started using tools and weapons to make life easier for them. The Stone Age period is divided into three spans of time, Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic. Slowly, mankind started ditching the nomadic life and embraced the much-sophisticated lifestyle with the help of the use of metals and tools. The Neolithic village of Skara Brae in Scotland allows us to experience what life was 5,000 years back and in France, the Paleolithic cave paintings are giving us a glimpse of the art and culture of that period. Dorothy Garrod was the first archaeologist from Britain to work on the Stone Age period. Mesolithic age was discovered by her first in 1929. She found some mini tools known as microliths. A few years down the line, a French archaeologist, Rene Neuville joined her and discovered many relics from the Natufian culture. 80 years later, a team of archaeologists uncovered some hidden truth from the past in Israel. Nahal-Ein-Gev is home to an ancient village where humans used to inhabit some 12,000 years ago. It was during a phase when humans were giving up the nomadic life, so this site is definitely going to have many hidden stories. From there, many forms of arts and tools were discovered like limestone models, flint tools, bone tools, and jewelry. More than 200 different examples of ornamentation were found in the place. Those ornaments were formed out of fancy beads or shells or from a rare material known as ‘greenstone’. The fascinating part of the greenstone is that this material is not available locally, so its presence proves that the individuals were engaged in trading with other places. Alongside these discoveries, human remains were also unraveled; one of which was a woman. Two of the remains were in the same position, whereas the bone of the other three was scattered all around. The archaeologists discovered two different ages of human history, the Paleolithic age where the tools were used and the Neolithic period where agriculture was the main profession. The researchers were of the opinion that the climatic change forced the inhabitants to change their lifestyle and adapt to farming and settling down in larger communities. But, nothing is confirmed about the real reason behind the change. This is how small discoveries are letting us understand our ancestors and how they used to lead their life.
