How would you deal with a humongous medical cost? It is too hard to let go of a near and dear one even when the medical bill is bearing a big hole in your pocket. Robert Blocksom knows exactly how it feels. This 87-year-old financial planner had to make some tough decisions when his wife was sick and he needed money to support her treatment. I know what you’re thinking: How come a financial planner run out of money? Most people would think on the same line because a financial planner advises others to invest wisely so that they can have enough to support all their expenses once they retire. The couple spent 60 years of their life together in Ohio. They had made some investments there. Jelaine, his wife was diagnosed with multiple medical complications, including breast cancer and asthma. To support her medical expenses Robert moved to an apartment and sold off their home in Middleburg Heights property. Now with the home already being sold, the new medical expenses that arose was met by selling off their trailers along with various other valuable items. The medical expenses were constant in their life, but the income was not, so Robert had to come out of his retirement and start doing a job that would give him enough money to sustain the expenses of his wife’s medication. He loved driving, but at first he felt he couldn’t take up truck driving for $50,000 a year because that would keep him away from Jelaine throughout the year. But then, he came to the conclusion that the offer was good and so he started driving classes to earn a commercial driver license. The husband and wife both thought that this was the best thing to do to meet the medical expenses. At first, it seemed to be one odd love story, but when the story eventually came to light, then a trend was noticed where old people are returning to work after retirement as a truck driver or the octogenarians is opting for farming or accounting. People worldwide followed their story and a Canadian woman by the name of Alexandra came to their rescue. She introduced a page by the name of GoFundMe where she raised $12000 overnight. By the late September 2018, the page has gathered $27,000 for the Blocksoms. Now he can relax a bit and enjoy his time with his ailing wife because the expenses are being taken care of. Initially, Jelaine was concerned about her husband because he was working hard outside and taking care of the house and her, but now she is also relieved
